Chatswood is two suburbs wearing one name: the tower-and-transport centre where thousands of apartments hold most of the population, and the quiet federation streets of Chatswood West where the housing looks like Willoughby's. I work both sides, differently.
Apartment work is its own trade — strata by-laws, acoustic requirements, loading docks and lift bookings, neighbours a wall away in every direction. House work west of the highway is classic North Shore carpentry. The crew is the same; the paperwork isn't.
What I do in Chatswood
On the apartment side: built-in joinery that makes compact floor plans work, flooring with strata's acoustic paperwork handled, and handyman visits that respect building access — lift bookings, loading docks and induction where buildings require it.
In Chatswood West: decks, pergolas, fencing and kitchen renovations for federation homes — the same work I do across the border in Willoughby.
Kitchen renovations in Chatswood
Kitchens are the job I'm asked for most in Chatswood, and the two halves of the suburb want different things from one. Apartment kitchens off Victoria Avenue and Albert Avenue run to strata rules before they run to design: by-law approval, lift and loading-dock bookings, acoustic underlay and waterproofing documentation sorted before the strip-out rather than after an objection. Work starts and finishes inside the hours the building allows, and common areas get protected on the way in and out.
West of the highway it's a different job. Federation and interwar kitchens out toward Chatswood West have usually grown across three eras, and none of the walls are square. I strip them back to one coherent room — carpentry-led kitchen renovations with cabinetry made to measure and scribed to the walls you actually have, not the ones a flat-pack assumes. Where the job needs a licensed trade, that's arranged with a licensed building partner and named in the quote.
Floors in Chatswood
Chatswood is one of my busiest flooring suburbs: hybrid flooring is the apartment favourite — waterproof, quiet underfoot, and available with acoustic underlay that satisfies strata by-laws — while engineered timber carries the house-side work. Supply and install, with strata acoustic requirements handled in the paperwork, not discovered at the objection stage.
