Cammeray packs a lot of good housing into a small grid: federation semis and freestanding cottages, brick and bay windows, small courtyards that have to earn their keep, and a main-road village that keeps the suburb walking. It sits under North Sydney Council — different rules from my Willoughby-side suburbs, and I work both.
Semis bring their own craft: party walls, narrow side passages, courtyards measured in single metres. Work here is about precision and tidiness — materials in through the front door, dust managed, the neighbour's side of the wall respected.
What I do in Cammeray
My Cammeray work leans indoors and streetside: kitchens in semis where every centimetre is negotiated, built-in joinery that turns alcoves and under-stair voids into storage, and picket front fences — the suburb's signature — built and painted properly.
Courtyards get the outdoor treatment at small scale: compact decks, pergolas for shade over a table, screening for privacy from the neighbours three metres away. And the small-jobs list, which in century-old semis is never quite finished.
